Switching from Bird to Pickeasy: A Step-by-Step Migration Guide

Who is this forÂ
You’re already running Bird Pickup & Delivery on your Shopify store and have decided to switch to Pickeasy, whether that’s for flat pricing, multi-location scaling, or something you read in our Pickeasy vs. Bird comparison.Â
This guide walks through exactly what to move, in what order, and what to double-check before you go live.
Before you touch anything: protect your live store
The single most common mistake in an app switch isn’t a missed setting: it’s making changes directly on your live theme while customers are checking out. Do this first:
- Duplicate your live theme in Shopify: Go to Online Store → Theme → Duplicate and do all setup work on the duplicate.
- Keep Bird active on your live theme until Pickeasy is fully configured and tested on the duplicate.
- Only publish the duplicate as your live theme once you’ve completed the testing checklist at the end of this guide.
What you’ll need before you start
- Admin access to both your Bird and Pickeasy apps
- A list of your current Bird locations, if you run more than one
- 10-15 minutes per location, depending on how many custom rate rules you have
Step-by-step: moving your configuration
1. Store pickup, local delivery & shipping methods
In Bird, these settings are organized into three separate sections: Store Pickup, Local Delivery, and Shipping. In Pickeasy, Local Delivery and In-Store Pickup are configured within the same section, while Shipping has its own dedicated section.
- Note which fulfillment methods you currently offer in Bird (pickup only, delivery only, or both, plus shipping date scheduling).
- In Pickeasy, enable the matching methods under the main settings; this is a mandatory first step before anything else will display correctly.
2. Delivery & pickup rates
This is the most time-consuming part of any switch, because neither app offers a bulk export/import between competitors, so rates need to be rebuilt manually.Â
Screenshot or export your current Bird rate table before starting (Settings → Rates) so you’re working from a reference, not memory.
3. Blackout dates, cut-off & prep times
- Bird’s blockout slots and cut-off/prep time settings don’t carry over. Rebuild these under Pickeasy’s slot and cut-off settings.
- If you run product-specific prep times on Bird’s Growth plan, budget extra time to recreate these per product rather than store-wide.
- Recreate any recurring blackout days (holidays, weekly closures) before your first live order comes in on Pickeasy.
4. Order limits
If you use Bird’s per-day order limits to cap how many pickups/deliveries you can fulfill, recreate the equivalent limit inside Pickeasy’s slot setting before going live, or you risk overbooking on day one.
5. Notifications
Pickeasy currently sends order and delivery notifications by email only. You can set up orders and delivery emails in Pickeasy Settings → Notifications.
6. Google Calendar integration
Both apps support this. Disconnect Bird’s Calendar integration and reconnect Google Calendar inside Pickeasy (available from the Smart plan, $19.99/mo) so your team doesn’t lose order visibility mid switch.
7. Widget styling
Pickeasy’s slot picker styling (colors, fonts, calendar format, mobile-specific layout) is configured separately from Bird’s and not carried over. Budget 10-15 minutes to match your store’s branding.
8. Multi-location setup
If you run more than one location on Bird, Pickeasy’s location setup lives on the Smart plan (up to 4 locations) or Premium plan (5-20 locations). Confirm you’re on the right tier before recreating each location’s settings individually.
Note:
Pickeasy doesn’t currently offer native 3PL integration. if your workflow depends on one of these, you’ll need to keep that piece running separately.
Mandatory check before you publish the new theme
These apply regardless of which app you’re switching from, since skipping them is the most common cause of a broken checkout:
- Disable the dynamic checkout buttons (Shop Pay, etc.) on the product page, since these can let customers skip the slot picker entirely.
- Disable accelerated checkout for the same reason
- Manually test that a customer cannot reach checkout without selecting a time slot.
Testing checklist before you go live
- Place a test order through the Pickeasy’s widget on the duplicate theme, desktop and mobile both, since slot picker issues tend to show up on mobile first.
- Confirm your rate rules return the correct price for at least one order in each fulfillment method you offer.
- Confirm the blackout dates and cut-off times display correctly on the calendar.
- Confirm the Calendar integration is pulling new orders correctly, if you use it.
Going live
- Publish the duplicate theme (with Pickeasy fully configured and tested) as your live theme.
- Keep Bird installed but deactivated for at least 48 hours as a fallback, rather than uninstalling immediately.
- Once you’ve confirmed a full day of live orders processes correctly, chase the Bird out of your Shopify store.
FAQs
1. Can I import my Bird settings directly into Pickeasy?
No, neither app offers a bulk export/import between competitors. Rate rules, blackout dates, and prep times need to be rebuilt manually, or recreated for you on a guided setup call.
2. How long does switching actually take?
For a single-location store with straightforward rates, plan on 1-2 hours of setup and testing. Multi-location stores or complex rate rules can take longer; a guided setup call is the fastest path if your configuration is non-trivial.
3. What happens to my Bird subscription if I switch mid-month?
Check Bird’s own billing terms directly; we can’t speak to their refund policy. Timing your uninstall around your billing date is the safest way to avoid overlap charges.
