Who is this for?

You're running Essential Upsell & Cross Sell on your Shopify store and have decided to move to Selleasy. You may be doing so because you want pricing that doesn't rise as your upsells earn, cart-page offers on every plan, thank-you page offers, an AI you can tell what to recommend, or checkout upsells in the same app (for Shopify Plus stores, on the Pro plan). Our Selleasy vs. Essential comparison covers the full picture if you're still weighing it up.

Worth checking before you start: Selleasy doesn't have a volume discount offer type. If you use Essential's volume discounts, plan to move them to Dealeasy, Logbase's volume discount app, which runs alongside Selleasy.

This guide covers what to rebuild, the order to do it in, and what to check before going live.

Ready to switch from Essential to Selleasy?

Book a free setup call. We’ll review your current offers, help rebuild your campaigns in Selleasy, and guide you through the checks before you go live.

Before you start setting up your store with Selleasy, make sure your live store is protected.

The most common mistake when switching app is making changes directly to your live theme while customers are still placing orders in your store.

So, do this first:

  1. Duplicate your live theme in Shopify: go to Online Store → Themes → Duplicate. Do all the setup and testing on this copy.
  2. Turn on the Selleasy app embed on the duplicate theme. Without it, your campaigns won't show while you test.
  3. Keep Essential running on your live theme until you've finished building and testing Selleasy on the duplicate.
  4. Once you've completed the testing checklist below, publish the duplicate theme.

What you'll need before you start

  • Admin access to both Essential and Selleasy.
  • A record of every active offer. Go to Apps → Essential Upsell → Offers. The offer location column shows where each offer runs. For each offer, note the offer type (Content tab), the targeting rules, including exclusions and sub-triggers (Offer tab), the discount settings, and the design settings (Design tab).
  • Screenshots of the content, offer and design tabs for every active offer. There's no bulk import between the two apps, so these are your reference once Essential is removed.
  • Your current numbers. Essential's dashboard shows impressions, conversions, conversion rate and added revenue for the past 30 days only. Screenshot it before you uninstall so you have a baseline.
  • A list of any other Essential apps you use, such as Essential Checkout or its cart drawer and free shipping bar apps. These need planning too.
  • Time: around 5-10 minutes per campaign, so a simple setup takes 1-2 hours.

Step-by-step: moving your configuration

Start with where your Essential setup maps across:

What you have in Essential Where it lives in Selleasy
Frequently bought together offers Frequently bought together (List, Amazon-style or Classic)
Cross-sell offers ("You may also like") Product Add-ons, or Shop the Collection (Carousel)
Product add-on offers Product Add-ons
Volume discount offers No equivalent in Selleasy - use Dealeasy
Cart page offers In-Cart Upsell, or Cart Add-ons
Pop-up offers (after add to cart) Selleasy's pop-up upsell campaigns
Post-purchase page offers Post-purchase Upsell
Not offered in Essential Upsell Thank you and Order status page upsells
Checkout offers (separate Essential Checkout app) Checkout Upsell (Shopify Plus, Pro plan)
Cart drawer (separate Essential app) No equivalent - Selleasy places offers inside your existing cart. Keep your theme cart or a cart drawer app
Automated recommendations (Related or Complementary) Shopify recommendations, or a Selleasy AI campaign you can instruct
Sub-triggers Add a condition under the campaign's Trigger
Countdown timer {{timer}} in the campaign subtitle
Translations Multi-language translations for each campaign's text

1. Rebuild your product page offers

In Essential's offers list, find every offer with product page in the offer location column. Note the offer type (cross-sell, volume discount, frequently bought together or product add-on) and the targeting rules in the offer tab (All products, specific products or products in specific collections, plus any exclusions or sub-triggers).

In Selleasy, go to Apps → Selleasy → Dashboard → Create campaign. Filter by Placement to find the product-page campaign types, choose the closest one, and click Create. Then set the trigger and offers to match your Essential setup. Recreate any sub-triggers with Add condition under Trigger.

Give each Selleasy campaign the same name as its Essential offer. It makes comparing performance after the switch much easier. If you sold warranties or protection plans as Essential product add-ons, recreate them as Selleasy Product Add-ons.

2. Rebuild your cart offers and check your cart

Essential's cart-page offers are only available from its $19.99/month plan. Selleasy includes them on every plan, including the free plan. Recreate them with In-Cart Upsell or Cart Add-ons.

If you use Essential's separate cart drawer app, decide what replaces it before you remove it: your theme's cart or another cart drawer app. Set it up on the duplicate theme, then position the Selleasy widget inside the drawer. This may need an HTML/CSS selector for your theme. Selleasy support can position it for you, or you can follow the user guide.

3. Rebuild your pop-up offers

Essential's Pop-up placement shows an offer after a customer adds a product to the cart. Recreate these with Selleasy's pop-up upsell campaigns. Selleasy also offers Cart Add-ons (Pop-up), which appear when the shopper clicks checkout.

4. Rebuild your post-purchase and thank-you page offers

Essential's post-purchase offers appear after payment, before the thank-you page. Recreate them with Selleasy's Post-purchase Upsell. Selleasy also adds Thank you and Order status page upsells, which Essential Upsell doesn't offer. Both work on any Shopify plan.

Shopify allows one post-purchase app at a time. Selleasy's post-purchase offers go live only when you select Selleasy under Settings → Checkout → Post-purchase page, so do this at go-live.

5. Checkout offers, if you're on Shopify Plus

Essential Upsell has no checkout placement. Its checkout offers come from a separate app, Essential Checkout. If you used it, recreate those offers with Selleasy's Checkout Upsell, then remove Essential Checkout as well.

Checkout Upsell needs a Shopify Plus store and Selleasy's Pro plan. Offers on the checkout page itself are a Shopify restriction, not an app one. If you're not on Plus, skip this step; post-purchase offers are the closest alternative.

6. Discounts, bundles and volume pricing

Essential sets discounts inside each offer: the discount type and value, a custom label, an optional limit on discounted quantity, and whether it applies always or only when the trigger product is in the cart. Recreate these in each Selleasy campaign's Discounts section. Bundle pricing on Frequently Bought Together offers rebuilds the same way.

Selleasy doesn't have a volume discount offer type. If you use Essential's volume discounts (buy more, save more), move them to Dealeasy, which runs alongside Selleasy.

7. Replace automated recommendations

If an Essential offer used Automated recommendations (Related or Complementary products), choose how Selleasy should pick products instead. Use Shopify recommendations for the closest like-for-like match, or Selleasy AI, which you can instruct, for example "only from the Joggers collection". On Pro, Selleasy AI also rotates out picks that aren't converting.

8. Match your styling

Essential's Design tab covers layout (Carousel or Stacked), template, background, corner radius, border, spacing, and typography. Styling doesn't carry over.

In Selleasy, go to Customize, find the widget for your placement, select Edit widget, then Customize to match your fonts, colors, and layout. Use Test in store to check the result on your theme. Neither app offers drag-and-drop positioning. If you need more control, use HTML/CSS selectors or custom CSS.

9. Translations

If you used Essential's translations, note the languages you have enabled and recreate the translated text with Selleasy's multi-language translations for each campaign.

10. If you have a large catalog, send us a spreadsheet

Rebuilding offers one by one takes time if your Essential offers cover many products. Send our support team a CSV of your trigger and offer products, and we'll create the campaigns for you. Reach us through chat or at connect@logbase.io.

Mandatory check before you go live

  • Use Selleasy's preview option after creating each offer to make sure everything looks and works as expected.
  • Place test orders for every placement you use (product page, cart, post-purchase, and checkout if applicable) and make sure the discounts are applied correctly.
  • Check that the offer styling looks right on both desktop and mobile.
  • If you sell internationally, check that the correct translated offer copy appears for each language.

Going live

Once you've completed all the checks, publish the duplicate theme now running fully on Selleasy as your live theme.

Keep Essential installed but switched off for a short buffer period rather than removing it immediately. After a full day of real orders has gone through without any issues, you can remove Essential from the store.

Before uninstalling, check Essential's billing cycle date. Uninstalling in the middle of a billing cycle may not always result in a refund for the remaining period, so uninstalling just after your billing date can help you avoid paying for another month you won't use.

FAQs

1. Can I bring my Essential setup into Selleasy automatically?

No, there isn't a bulk transfer option between the two apps. You'll need to recreate each offer, along with its placement and discount logic. If you'd like help with the switch, you can book a guided setup call.

2. Will I lose Essential's funnel analytics history?

Yes, the analytics dashboard won't transfer to Selleasy. Take a screenshot or export your current numbers before switching so you have something to use as a baseline for comparison.

3. Roughly how long does the switch take?

If you have a straightforward setup with product-page and post-purchase offers, you can usually rebuild and test everything within 1–2 hours. If you're setting up cart-page offers for the first time or have offers running across many products, you'll likely need more time.
